Palio della Rana

First Sunday after Easter Day

The so-called Palio della Rana (Frog's Palio) takes place each year on the first Sunday after the "Domenica in Albis" (Easter Day) at Fermignano, situated in the middle of the Pesaro/Urbino province. This game aims at recalling the founding of the Municipal Council at Fermignano in 1607 by Francesco Maria II della Rovere, the last Duke of Urbino.

Each "scariolante" (wheel-barrow pusher) representing a different town district, runs while pushing a wheel-barrow trasporting a frog. Before the beginning of the competition, a procession of people wearing historical costumes of the second half of XVI century will have passed.
