This
town, founded on september 8th, 1306 upon decision of the Consiglio
dei Cento of the Florentine Republic, became the vicariate seat
in 1415. Every year on this occasion, called "Diotto"
from the latin "Die octo" meaning "day 8",
the Vicar's investiture is recalled.
The retiring Vicar moves from the Palace together with his court
to meet and salute the new Vicar, also accompanied by his own
court. After that the twi Vicars with their retinues pass in procession
and finally reach the main square to receive homage from the Castle
Guards.
